Placing our partner organization at the heart of the program

Since the launch of the Secondment Program in 2014, J&J has empowered almost 70 of its global employees to take on life-changing, skills-based volunteering assignments to help raise public health standards in communities around the world, while at the same time enable them to grow personally and professionally and bring new insights and learnings back into their organizations.

By using your talent for good you too can play your part in addressing some of the world’s most pressing health issues and contribute to strengthening health systems and supporting and empowering front line health workers across the globe who need our support now more than ever.

Underlying the uniqueness of the Secondment Program is our commitment to put the needs of our NGO partner organization first, and to match the right Johnson & Johnson employee with the right skill sets, experience, authenticity and expertise to maximize their contribution to the NGO and long-term outcome.

In 2021, we will be partnering and collaborating with the following NGOs: the AKDN, Basic-Needs Ghana, CCBRT, Heart to Heart International, mothers2mothers, the IRC,, Save the Children, Forum for the Future, South Lake Medical Center, SOS Children’s Villages International, The Ihangane Project, UNFPA and UNICEF.


Scaling to make a greater impact

By the end of 2020, sixty nine of our talented Johnson & Johnson employees from across our business sectors will have completed a long-term secondment with eight NGO partners in the field. Sharing their intellect, skills and passion to make a long-term and sustainable impact to those working on the front lines of delivering care whilst growing personally and professionally and bringing fresh insights back into our business.

Coaching Community

All J&J Secondees are coached on their Secondment journey by a team of retired J&J Senior Executives who invest their time for free to help guide the J&J employees through their often challenging and complex assignments. The team of coaches brings a wealth of consolidated business expertise gained from former senior positions, where they were responsible for managing Johnson & Johnson business operations across EMEA and globally.

Reverse Secondment Program

Every year, we continue to invest in the Secondment Program to further innovate and scale the impact we can deliver. In 2017, we launched the Reverse Secondment Program, enabling employees from our NGO and Network organizations to be seconded within our Company to further develop their expertise and bring new skill sets back into their organisation.

Lion Secondment Program

Launched in 2019, the J&J Lion Secondment Program is a new offering within the our skill-based volunteering Program. It enables senior Johnson & Johnson leaders to take on virtual and part-time (20%, 4-6 months) strategic / advisory assignments with NGO partner organizations, to help strengthen and transform health systems across the EMEA region. ​The roles allow​ our senior leaders to provide business support to the NGO partners, whilst continuing to manage their leadership role and responsibilities with the Company.
