Three things I learned at One Young World

ByAnna Tacconi

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the 2019 One Young World Summit in London as part of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) delegation. One Young World is an NGO that gathers impactful young leaders from across the globe united by one common purpose: create a better world, with more responsible and more effective leadership.

As a young J&J leader, I had the opportunity to hear from many inspiring and passionate speakers during the four day transformative Summit.

Some of my top learnings are:

1. We can and must bring positive change: only 6.7% of the world’s population holds a college degree. If we don’t take action, then who will? We have the responsibility and duty to carry the messages we receive out into the world to embrace change and shape a better future.

2. The answer is very often right in front of you: as a young leader within a big company like J&J, I learnt that despite the size of the company small changes can lead to greater and global impact.

3. We must treat ourselves with care before we can effectively help others. At OYW, I learnt that if you are being good to your body and your own mental health, you will be better equipped to care for others, because you will be strong enough to lift someone else up.

Now that I am back, I feel a real urge to take action and look forward to using my learnings and insights to bring concrete and positive change to my organisation in the upcoming months and years to come. So stay tuned!

And thank you, Johnson & Johnson, for giving me the opportunity to join this fantastic program!
